LAByrinths are a series of dream labs opening up the curatorial process towards the DREAM PALACE in Athens. In this iteration we welcome Professor of Anthropology Charles Stewart and Philosoper and Ethicist Blay Whitby to discuss themes such as historical consciousness, collective dreaming and AI.

Labyrinth: Nous | νοῦς :Historical Consciousness, Social Dreaming, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence with guest speakers Prof. Blay Whitby (AI, Machine Learning, Technology Ethicist) and Prof. Charles Stewart (Anthropologist, Collective Dreaming, Historical Consciousness).

Nous/νοῦς: Intellect or mind. It is seen by some to represent the highest aspect of human consciousness and is associated with intuitive understanding and apprehension, direct perception, perspicaciousness and spiritual insight.

In this incubator event, our two eminent guests will both give short (30 minutes) keynote presentations that elucidate their respective research areas. A joint, conversational Q&A hosted by DREAM PALACE curators will follow.

DREAM PALACE curators will present ideas about the relevance of nous to the goddess Mnemosyne and collective dreaming in the Asklepion tradition of Sacred Sleep - enkoimesis. The Goddess Mnemosyne is the daughter of Heaven - Ouranos and Earth - Gaia, she is the personification of divine remembrance, eloquence and sense-making and she is the mother of the Muses.

An optional collective dreaming and dream-sharing experiment will be offered at end of the night. Dream tea and eye pillows will be available - but do bring a pillow and blanket to make yourself extra cozy. We will also have a nootropic bar where you can purchase delicious drinks to enhance your senses.

Charles Stewart is Professor of Anthropology at University College London. After a first degree in Classics, he specialised in the anthropology of Greece where he has carried out extensive ethnographic field research.

In his book Dreaming and Historical Consciousness in Island Greece he returned to the island of Naxos to study traditions of dreaming which revealed the location of Christian icons buried in the earth. This book showed how the dreams presented views of the past and of the future that profoundly affected the present of the community.
