Joel Cahen is an audio and visual practitioner and curator and organiser of experiential art events. Since 2002 he has been organising multi-disciplinary art events in London such as Evil Art, The Wormhole Saloon at the Whitechapel Art Gallery, Scrap Club and Wet Sounds.In 2019 Joel was commissioned to produce and curate We're All Bats, an extensive series of listening arts workshops, activities and events in public spaces and venues as part of the Waltham Forest London Borough of Culture 2019.
Joel’s long-running weekly radio shows on London’s Resonance 104.4FM (2005 – 2016) explored live improvised sound collage, cacophony and plunderphonics. He works on sound installations and performances in public spaces such as libraries, swimming pools and galleries. His work was exhibited/performed across Europe, Australia and North America at Red Bull Music Academy, ISEA, AV Festival, All Tomorrows Parties, The Whitechapel Art Gallery, Tate Modern, Ultima Festival, Adelaide Fringe, Macau Arts Festival, Helsinki Festival, Elektroni(k) and many more.
Joel was a resident of Apiary Studios 2011 - 2016.
